What It Is

"TEAMS is a one day, two-part national competition challenging high school students in grades 9-12 to work together as a team to apply knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world engineering scenarios. Competitions are held on college and university campuses across the country in February and March and inspire creativity, team-work, critical thinking, and peer-to-peer cooperation…

The current captain is Kavish Gandhi.

COMPETITION FORMAT

TEAMS is a two-part, timed competition taken all in one day. Part I is 90 minutes and consists of 80 multiple choice questions centered around 8 themes, all related to engineering athletic events. Part II is also 90 minutes and consists of short answer/essay questions that are extensions of 4 of the Part I themes. Students work together in teams of 4-8 people, and because TEAMS has an open-note, open-book, open-discussion format, students are able to really work together in ways they usually cannot. REMEMBER TO LOOK AT WHAT CALCULATORS ARE ALLOWED.

RANKING AND AWARDS

TEAMS offers local, state, and national awards and recognition. Local awards are done individually by each host site while state and national rankings and awards are compiled by JETS. State rankings are based only on the Part I score. Those whose Part I scores qualify for national ranking will then be ranked nationally based on the Part II score. Like in future engineering course work and real world career tasks, in order to do well, teams must be able to answer multiple choice AND essay questions."
